Changelog

What changed in BeatOps, version by version. Releases live on GitHub; install the latest from the download page.

2.3.2 2026-07-15

Added

  • Beat metadata fields (key, mood, genre) now have an explicit "Auto-detect" state: leave a field on Auto-detect, set it to None, or pick a value yourself. Metadata is also editable directly in the quick-upload dialog.

Changed

  • Readiness indicators are gentler for fields the app can fill in itself: values left on Auto-detect show an amber dot instead of a red cross.

Fixed

  • Connecting a YouTube account no longer fails with an "invalid_grant: Missing code verifier" error; OAuth sign-in now completes reliably. Already-connected accounts were unaffected.

2.3.1 2026-07-08

Added

  • Update downloads now show a progress bar and can be cancelled while in progress.

Changed

  • On macOS, updates now download only the parts of the app that changed (differential updates), so moving to a new version is much faster and uses far less bandwidth.

Fixed

  • Auto-update now downloads and installs reliably on both macOS and Windows; a packaging issue previously stopped update downloads from working.
  • Update failures are now surfaced clearly instead of failing quietly, while harmless offline or network blips no longer show up as errors.
  • BeatOps no longer keeps prompting you to update after you have cancelled a download.

2.3.0 2026-07-05

Added

  • Genre-aware tempo (BPM) detection and tuning-corrected key detection, for more accurate results across different styles of beats.
  • After key detection, the relative key (the major/minor that shares the same notes) is offered as a one-click alternative - major/minor is the most common detection ambiguity, so this makes a wrong mode a single tap to fix.

Changed

  • The setup wizard now asks the anonymous-usage-statistics question as an explicit choice instead of a default-off toggle, and both the wizard and Settings can show the exact payload that would be sent ("See exactly what gets sent"), built live so it always matches reality.

Fixed

  • Connecting to BeatStars no longer intermittently fails due to a login timing issue during startup.
  • BeatStars uploads are more reliable: title and tag handling is more robust and the uploader recovers more gracefully when an individual step fails.
  • The app now clears a leftover backend process on launch, preventing a startup failure when its local port was still in use.
  • The Microsoft Store version of BeatOps no longer runs the in-app updater (the Store handles updates itself), preventing repeated update errors.

2.2.0 2026-06-22

Changed

  • YouTube analytics setup now links to the step-by-step Google Cloud API key guide, clarifying that connecting your own key is required.
  • Clearer descriptions for the Error Reporting and Usage Analytics settings, explaining what each toggle shares.
  • Genre and mood detection now runs on a bundled, cross-platform model, so it works reliably on both macOS and Windows.

Fixed

  • The app no longer fails to start if a previous instance left its local port in use; the backend now recovers the port automatically.
  • The analytics opt-in is asked again if the app was closed while the dialog was still open.

2.1.5 2026-06-13

Added

  • Automatic updates: BeatOps now checks for new versions periodically, downloads them in the background, and lets you restart to update in one click.
  • A short in-app survey (a rating and one open question) to help shape what gets built next.

Changed

  • Faster, more reliable audio analysis. "Detect All" no longer stalls or fails intermittently, and per-field errors are surfaced when something goes wrong.
  • Improved the BeatStars upload: the Key field is filled directly and the upload flow is more robust.

Fixed

  • Video generation now falls back to ffmpeg when ffprobe is missing on Windows.
  • A run is correctly reported as failed when no videos are produced.
  • Fixed the packaged Windows app failing to start in some cases.

Security

  • Patched a dependency vulnerability (CVE-2026-44705).

2.1.4 2026-03-25

Fixed

  • BPM and key detection now persist after analysis.

2.1.2 2026-03-21

Added

  • Schedule calendar view on the Beats page.
  • Cancel and retry for workflow runs, with live progress and elapsed time.
  • Opt-in anonymous usage analytics to help improve BeatOps (off by default).

Fixed

  • BeatStars: clearer messages when Chrome is not installed or the browser is closed mid-upload.

2.1.1 2026-03-19

Fixed

  • BeatOps now recovers gracefully if its local port is already in use at startup.
  • Fixed YouTube uploads failing in packaged builds.
  • Settings: the preview folder is now always stored as an absolute path.
  • Clearer, more helpful error messages across the app.

Security

  • Patched high-severity dependency vulnerabilities.

2.1.0 2026-03-09

Added

  • Keyword Explorer: discover and score type-beat keywords, with competition and trending-artist signals to spot opportunities.

Fixed

  • More accurate keyword scoring, matching, and rate limiting.

Security

  • Fixed a path-traversal issue and tightened message-origin validation.

1.5.0 2026-01-27 (Beta)

Highlights

  • Desktop installers: Mac DMG and Windows NSIS installers for easy installation
  • Error tracking: Sentry integration with PII scrubbing and user opt-out
  • Usage limits: Fair usage system with platform-specific upload limits

Added

  • Mac DMG installer with drag-to-Applications experience
  • Windows NSIS installer with optional start menu and desktop shortcuts
  • Sentry error tracking with automatic PII scrubbing (emails, paths, credentials)
  • Error reporting opt-out toggle in Settings (requires app restart)
  • GDPR-compliant "Delete All Data" feature for complete data removal
  • Usage limits: 2 uploads per platform per week (free tier), 4 per platform per week (growth tier)
  • Visual usage indicator showing remaining uploads at 80%+ usage
  • Limit reached modal with upgrade prompt when limits exceeded
  • Bypass detection for integrity monitoring (soft check, never blocks users)
  • Circuit breaker pattern for BeatStars reliability during outages
  • Button loading states with spinner feedback during async operations
  • Release checklist documentation for consistent build process

Changed

  • Improved timeout handling for external API calls (300s max for SoundCloud uploads)
  • Enhanced logging for circuit breaker state transitions
  • Modal dismissibility - users can close limit modals (enforcement at backend level)
  • LoadingButton shows spinner only during loading (no text change)

Fixed

  • Various packaging bugs for cross-platform compatibility
  • Resource path resolution in packaged applications
  • FFmpeg binary bundling for video generation

Known Issues

  • No code signing: Security warnings expected on first launch (Mac Gatekeeper, Windows SmartScreen)
  • YouTube OAuth testing mode: Limited to 100 users during Google verification process
  • SoundCloud API: Registration throttled by SoundCloud - new users may need to wait

Security

  • HMAC-based integrity verification using machine-specific secrets
  • PII scrubbing prevents sensitive data from reaching error tracking
  • User control over error reporting via Settings toggle
